PBIS
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
At Luis P. Untalan Middle School, we implement PBIS to help create a positive school environment for students, faculty, staff and the rest of the school community. We have a School Climate Cadre (SCC) consisting of teachers, administrators, students, and PBIS coaches Connie Santiago and Frank Limtiaco who meet regularly every month. Headed by teachers Mrs. Anna Paulino and Mrs. Hannah Guevara as coordinators, the team organizes monthly school assemblies where student discipline data is shared to students. Students are also selected by their team teachers and receive a certificate for Pride of the Den and Most Inspirational.
Positive Award Winners (PAWs)
Recently, the team has implemented the PAWS program, in which teachers, staff and administrators reward students with PAWS tokens for good behavior. The student names are then inputted into a raffle where prizes include an off-campus field trip lunch at Wendy's, gift certificates and sports balls, and other rewards. The PAWS tokens are 3D printed with the school logo.
The Kindness Grant Award
SCC Coordinator Hannah Guevara applied for an off-island Kindness Grant and received $2,000 to promote positive student behaviors. The funds help pay for student rewards throughout the school year.
Assemblies
Every month, the School Climate Cadre organizes an assembly with each of the grade levels. to discuss their discipline data, have administration discuss current concerns, and award students who received PAWS tokens and whose names were put in a raffle for those who would go on the Wendy's lunch reward. Some assemblies, there are performances.
