For all incoming 6th graders & new students, there will be a SY2024-SY2025 new student orientation on Thursday, July 18 for those whose last name begins with a letter from A through L at 9am or 11am. For students whose last names begin from M through Z, orientation will be on Friday, July 19 at 9am or 11am. Location will be announced at a later time.

Based on the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC) mid-cycle report with a one-day visit, Luis P. Untalan Middle School ‘s accreditation is now reaffirmed through the end of the current accreditation cycle ending on June 30, 2027.
This accreditation status is based on the information provided by the school, including the school's progress report, and the satisfactory completion of the mid-cycle accreditation visit.

5-18-24: The 8th Grade Promotional Ceremony was beautifully held at the Father Duenas Memorial School's Phoenix Center. Hundreds of 8th graders from all teams were promoted together for the first time in a single ceremony since 2012. 5-18-24: In a competition with six robotics teams, the Luis P. Untalan Middle School WildBOTS won first place in Guam Department of Education's 2024 TCEA Robotics Competition, "Hi, Bye Pizza Pie." Second place went to the V.S.A. Benavente Middle School's team and Third Place went to Jose Rios Middle School's team.
Due to the pandemic, this it the first time in four years that GDOE has held the Texas-based competition and only the middle schools competed. Congratulations to the whole wildcats team and their coaches Mrs. Bernadeth Gumataotao and Mrs. Juvy Cariño.

5-15-24: After months of planning, 8th graders can dance their middle school years away at this year's 8th Grade Ball! The Student Body Association is sponsoring "Written in the Stars" 8th Grade Ball on May 17 at the Guam Plaza Hotel. Dance with your friends to the sounds of DJ Vibe and get photos from a photo booth by Premium Art Photo. Students must have a signed permission form and parents/guardians must "sign in" and "sign out" students at the ball.
5-12-24: Congratulations to the LPUMS Fierce Dance Team for winning First Place for Small Group, Second Place for Large Group, and Third Place for Solo category at the Allied Dance Force Competition at Okkodo High School. The team competed against four other public and private middle schools.
5-11-24: Congratulations to the LPUMS Track and Field team for winning Second Place at the ALL-ISLAND middle school competition at the JFK track. The team competed against the Astumbo Dragons and the F.B. Leon Guerrero Hawks.

Thank you to the all who have helped stepped in from the local music community to help our bands get prepared for their recital since Band Director Ms. Joanne Matanane-Sosa is currently ill and will not be able to join the bands that she has shaped all year. We wish her healing and speedy recovery.

5-4-24: Luis P. Untalan Middle School Safety Committee came out with a new Emergency Procedure Video, showing how to properly react during an emergency such as an earthquake, reverse lockdown, and shelter in place. Thank you to Mr. Jorge Emmanuel for editing the video.
5-10-24: Congratulations to Mrs. Michelle Cruz, Pre-AP Jaguars Reading teacher, for ranking as the Top 3 Coordinator for the PBS 29th Annual Read-a-thon among elementary and middle schools islandwide. She was recently recognized by the Guam Legislature and received a $50 gas card and $50 Twinkles gift card.
4-27-24: Eight new members were inducted into the Luis P. Untalan Middle School Fine'nena Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society at the University of Guam Lecture Hall. New NJHS Officers for next year were also installed. Congratulations, wildcats!
Two of this year's 6 Finalists for the Guam Department of Education's 2025 Teacher of the Year are from Luis P. Untalan Middle School! KUAM shot and edited these video profiles and showed them last week after the newscasts. The Guam Daily Post also wrote profile articles. The winner of the 2025 Teacher of the Year will be announced in a ceremony at the Government House on Friday, May 3.
4-19-24: During EXCEL period, Mrs. Guerrero spoke to the student body about all the activities that were coming up in the last weeks of classes, such as the district-wide testing, end-of-the-year field trips, and the 8th Grade Promotional. She also expressed to them what is expected of their behavior and the repercussions for students if they do not follow school rules and policies.
The Parent-Teacher Organization used funds fundraised this year to purchase two, 75-inch screens to add to the school's backboard in the gym. "They will be used as digital scoreboards and for whatever else the school can utilize them for," said PTO President Joe Cruz, who recently installed one of the monitors himself. Thank you, PTO for providing a need to our athletes and our LPUMS sports program.
4-19-24: Wildcats participated in Island Leadership Day with 8th Grader Kaleb Togawa shadowing Guam Legislature Senator Joe San Agustin and 8th Grader Taylor Toves shadowing Supreme Court Judge Arthur Barcinas. For one day, numerous students from public, private, and charter schools were youth counterparts to Guam’s leaders in the Government of Guam, Legislature, Judiciary, and Mayor's Offices. The annual event hopes to "provide our island’s future workforce with a glimpse of the day-to-day operations and skill sets required for a high-functioning and responsive government," according to a Department of Youth Affairs release.
Starting April 22, students can show their spirit and support autism awareness by following the daily themes. Students must wear uniform bottoms.
4-7-24—The Parent-Teacher Organization held a carwash fundraiser for the 8th Grade promotion from 9am-2pm at the KFC Mangilao parking lot. Thank you for all the hard-working students, faculty, and parents who helped clean cars. And to the many drivers who donated to the fundraiser. It was a successful fundraiser with about $2,500 raised. Go wildcats!
March 8, 2024— The 2024 Mes CHamoru Opening Ceremony jump-started this month's celebrations at Luis P. Untalan Middle School. Our cultural dance group, Lina’la’ I Famagu’on, performed, the Rai & Raina Royal Court was crowned, and singer Richard Hofschneider performed for the wildcat community in the school gym. Thank you to everyone who organized the ceremony including Señora Michelle Balajadia, Señora Perez, the P.E. Department, and the Parent-Teacher Organization.

Feb. 23, 2024: With just one question, the Luis P. Untalan Middle School Academic Challenge Bowl team beat St. John's School team to win the middle school championship and head to Chicago for the national competition! Congratulations to our hard-working team and advisors who held numerous practices for the past months in preparation for their matches. The championship team and one coach earns a trip to Chicago to compete in the Middle School National Academic Championship in June.
Valentines Spirit Week will be from Feb. 12 to 16. This week is also Read-A-thon Week, with specific activities for everyone to do. And, on Feb. 14, there will be a Valentines Activity. Sports Club is selling tickets to the dance for $2, and teams and other clubs will be having games during the activity.

12-18-23: Awesome job to our Lady Wildcats for grabbing the 2023-2024 Interscholastic Sports Association (ISA) Middle School Girls Volleyball Championship! They were victorious over the VSA Benavente team in two straight sets 25-23 and 26-24.
The Lady Wildcats also had an impressive undefeated season! Congratulations to the team and Coach Rodney Pama!
Due to the district's maximization plan, we are losing five teachers who will be transferred to other schools. Farewell to: Cougars Math teacher Sydney Espinueva, Panthers Language Arts teacher Mikko Florencio, Physical Education teacher Gio Cariño, Tigers Science teacher Jose Gallego, and CHamoru teacher Jesus Lujan III (not pictured). Standing with them are Administrative Officer Jeannette Superales, Principal Agnes Guerrero, and Assistant Principal Cora Elane.
The LPUMS staff spent some time in professional development during the Christmas Break. They received Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) training on "Working with Tough Kids."
During the Christmas Break, when everyone else stayed away from the campus, the dedicated men and women of our staff did work to maintain our infrastructure.

12-11-23: Wildcats donated toys for needy kids during the holidays for the Be Heartfelt Holiday Hope Toy Donation Drive. The toys were donated to the Be Heartfelt organization and went to students who participated in the Meal Pack Program. Thank you to the Student Body Association and the School Climate, Culture, and Engagement office (SCCE) for leading the toy drive for LPUMS.

Hafa Adai Wildcats: 3rd quarter sports are Boys Basketball, Baseball and Girls Soccer! Those who are interested must sign up this week 12/11-12/15. Sign up sheets are near the SSO at the front courtyard. All must meet the requirements to be cleared to try out current or updated physical and must meet the grade requirements to participate. Tryouts will begin when the students return from Christmas break.
12-2-23: Members of the LPUMS National Junior Honor Society attended a leadership conference organized by the Academy of Our Lady of Guam students. Several public and private middle schools attended the Saturday event. Students were able to do numerous activities to improve their leadership skills.
We are thrilled to announce that Luis P. Untalan Middle School has received approval for a 4-year grant under the Comprehensive Literacy State Development (CLSD) Program. One of our 8th-grade Reading teachers, Mrs. Madrid Borja, has spearheaded the development of the WeRead. Literacy Program aimed at increasing academic achievement in literacy.
This substantial grant, exceeding $100,000, will be allocated towards essential resources, comprehensive training, enticing incentives, and engaging activities. We are excited to share that the full implementation of the WeRead. Literacy Program is scheduled to commence in the upcoming school year.

Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Swanson selected LPUMS as one of the three public schools to show Ms. Miller, Council of Chief State School, on November 30, 2023. Dr. Swanson and Ms. Miller toured our campus as well as talk to students, faculty and staff.

The LPUMS chapter of the National Junior Honor Society and the Support Services Outreach team are collecting canned food to donate to needy families. Donations are being accepted until Thursday, November 9, 2023.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every Friday, wildcats can wear pink to support breast cancer awareness.
At 10:19am on Oct. 19, the campus stopped, dropped, and took cover for the Great Guam Shakeout--the annual islandwide earthquake drill.
10-17-23: Congratulations to Zaiden Paulino and Maya Echang for placing in the Top Ten runners at the ISA Middle School Cross Country All-Island Meet. Zaiden was the fastest male runner, placing first and Maya placed 9th. The Astumbo Dragon Boys and the Agueda Pirates Girls won the team championship.
10-16-23: In their 10th Championship Finals in 12 years, the LPUMS Boys Volleyball A team went against Benavente Middle School on Oct. 16 at Okkodo High School for the ISA Middle School Volleyball Championship. Coached by Precious Pecson, the team made a valiant effort but lost to BMS in the third set. Congratulations to the team and Coach Pecson for all the hard work this season.
Mrs. Madrid Borja submitted our school’s Comprehensive Literacy Grant to C&I recently. "Her vision to promote literacy in our school community has been put into play!" said Mrs. Guerrero. "This grant will provide over $100K! Thank you very much Madrid for your time and expertise in writing up our school’s literacy grant!"

Sign ups for 2nd quarter sports will begin Oct. 2nd through Oct. 5th. 2nd quarter sports are Girls Volleyball, Boys & Girls Rugby. Boys Soccer (tentative). All interested must have an updated physical and must bring a copy for the Athletic Director. Tryouts location and times will be announced on Oct. 9th.
Open House was held on Thursday, Sept. 14 from 5:30pm to 7:15pm. Parents and guardians began the visit at the LPUMS Gym at 5:30pm with welcoming remarks from Mrs. Guerrero and the newly elected PTO officers. Parents were then be directed to visit their child's teams. Thank you to the National Junior Honor Society for having students guide our parents on campus. Parents were encouraged to attend to address any questions or concerns they may have with their child's classes.

"The Guam Department of Education (GDOE) would like to share with the island community that another school passed the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) sanitary inspection. Luis P. Untalan Middle School (LPUMS) passed its week-long inspection.
GDOE is proud of the diligent work of LPUMS principal Agnes Guerrero and her school. Along with the GDOE Facilities & Maintenance team, Principal Guerrero and her team received a passing grade and can return to regular school operations."
