Tiyan, Guam – The Guam Department of Education proudly recognizes and congratulate the exceptional achievement of Luis P. Untalan Middle School, which secured first place in seven out of eight categories at the Guam History Day Competition. The event, which took place on March 23, 2024, revolved around the pivotal theme "Turning Point in Guam's History," inspiring a deep dive into the island's rich heritage.
The Guam History Day competition began on Guam in 2007, sponsored by the Guam Preservation Trust. Over the years it has expanded to now enjoy the support of the Micronesian Area Research Center, the University of Guam and various private and public supporters. The intense research project, presented in various forms, not only showcases our island’s rich history but equips our students with skills years above their peers. The winners of the local competition, receive a chance to compete in the National History Day (NHD) Competition at the University of Maryland. Given this rare opportunity, students not only compete but get to tour the nation’s capitol and historic sites and many times get a chance to witness firsthand the wheels of government in action.
