Robotics Team Wins Competitions

The LPUMS Robotics team, made up of Sean Fabian, Rianne Marquez, and Darren Concepcion competed in two contests this year. Pre-AP Math teacher Bernadeth Gumataotao was the main coach for both teams. Providing support were Robotics teachers Juvy Carino and Rozalyn Pama and Science teacher Vincent Aguon.

Whirli-bot Contest

As the Roaring Wildcats, the team entered the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) Virtual Robotics Contest in March.

Out of hundreds of entries from Texas and Guam schools, they won the “Texas-Sized Creativity Award” for the North Division for their whirli-bot, the Roaring Typhoon.

Underwater Robotics

As the LPUMS Hydrotech, the team also competed in the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Underwater Robotics Competition and won 2nd Place in the Scout Category.

Summer School Begins June 7

6-2-21: Luis P. Untalan Middle School will have a summer school session for 6th to 8th graders that will be online or face-to-face. The session will run from June 7 until July 16. Students will have Language Arts, Science, Math, Robotics and Character Ed classes from Monday to Thursday.

Students registered for summer school will have an orientation on Friday, June 4 at the LPUMS Cafeteria. Please view the flyer.

Wildcats Awarded for Science Fair Wins

5-30-21: The 43rd Islandwide Science Fair held its awards ceremony, with LPUMS Science teacher Arlene Castro (4th from left) and LPUMS Principal Agnes Guerrero (5th from right) at the Hilton Resorts and Spa.

The wildcat winners were Andrew Kang (3rd from right) and Anaiah Tereyama (2nd from right). They will be representing Guam at the Broadcom Masters International Virtual Fair.

8th Graders Promoted from Middle School

May 18, 2021—The 2021 8th Grade Promo & Go ceremony was held on Tuesday, May 18 at the front of the school from 9am-12pm. Cars lined up along the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway to take turns as a graduate got down from their car, walked over to get their promotional certificate, and posed for photos or wave at the live stream on GDOE's Facebook page and on the LPUMS SBA Instagram page. Thank you to all the hard-working staff, faculty, admin, parents, and students for working together these past weeks to make an awesome ceremony!

Public Service Announcement from our Students

5-6-21: This is a public service announcement for all Luis P. Untalan Middle School students, faculty, staff, administration and their families. Due to recent break-ins to the school campus, the Student Body Association officers and members created this video message.

GUAMERICA Lions Club Donates $500

5-1-21: Group Donation—GUAMERICA Lions Club District 204 presented LPUMS with a donation to purchase security cameras for the campus. Guerreros Match Lions Club Donation

5-1-21: Matching Donation—GUAMERICA Lions Club District 204 President Edward Guerrero (far right) and his wife and LPUMS teacher Rowena Guerrero (second to right) present a check of $500 to LPUMS Principal Agnes A. Guerrero (far left) and Student Body Association officers Krysta Joy Fejeran and McKenzie Matthews. The generous donations will go towards the purchase of security cameras for the campus after numerous break-ins were made during the last week of April.

4-26-21: GENEROUS DONATION—The Underwater Robotics team of Luis P. Untalan Middle School welcomed donations from two Guam Education Board members and the Benavente family. On April 23, the school had a break-in. Several items and tools used by the robotics team to prepare for the up-coming underwater robotics competition were stolen from a classroom. GEB members Maria Gutierrez and Lourdes Benavente donated cash after they heard about the team's misfortunes. Students Aniyah and Ayden Benavente, along with their mom Naomi, also wanted to help the team rebuild and donated cash to the team.

Present at the ceremony were Principal Agnes Guerrero, Naomi Benavente, Coach Rozalyn Pama, GEB Member Maria Gutierrez, ROV team members Sean Fabian and Darren Concepcion, Students Aniyah and Ayden Benavente, GEB member Lourdes Benavente, and Underwater Robotics coaches Bernadeth Gumataotao, Juvy Carino, and Vincent Aguon.

5-6-21: The Underwater Robotics team (Students Sean, Darren, and Rianne with Coach Gumataotao) wish to thank everyone who helped them replenish their stolen tools and equipment.

Art Students Share their COVID Light and place in Art Competition

4-26-21: Three students from Mr. David Castro's art class placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the annual Isla Art-a-thon competition, "My Light During COVID." The students were asked to create a work of art "that depicts what has helped them through this difficult time--to depict their light during COVID." With 91 entries received this year, the competition was organized by the University of Guam's Isla Center for the Arts. Below are the winning entries from our school in the middle school division.

IT&E MIFI Can Be Picked Up Beginning April 7

4-7-21: Today begins the distribution for the MiFi devices that are made possible through the PATH program and through our vendor, IT&E. The GDOE would like to extend its appreciation to the island mayors for working with IT&E to establish distribution sites for the devices at designated village locations. Interested parents may still apply for the PATH program at their child's school.

3-25-21: This form was sent out to parents and guardians via email on March 25. For next school year, there will only be two models of learning: Online or Face-to-Face. All students will be registered for Face-to-Face class in SY2021-2022. If parents/guardians prefer to enroll their child into the Online Model of Learning, they have to submit the form to the school.

3-11-21: The science fair season is upon us once again and students are encouraged to virtually enter in the 43rd Annual Island-wide Science Fair by March 26. The recently-released video features our school's three science teachers: Ms. Arlene Castro (Pre-AP Jaguars), Mr. Eric Garrido (Pre-AP Cheetahs) and Mrs. Florence Camacho (Leopards). The video also features our Principal Mrs. Agnes Guerrero. LPUMS has had a high participation rate in the past and we hope this year's wildcats will once again enter the valuable learning event.

3-5-21: An immunization clinic is scheduled for Monday, March 15 from 8am-12pm for GWHS, AIJMS, LPUMS, & JRMS students needing immunization update, 6th and 9th grade students with missing TB Skin Test, 8th grade students preparing for 9th grade health requirements. The clinic will be at George Washington High School campus.

Parents: Supply kits for all LPUMS students are available for pickup

3-1-21: Parents can come to the school this week to pick up supplies for their child(ren) who attend Luis P. Untalan Middle School. The supplies include a bag pack, composition notebooks, and pocket folders. View the flyer for specific times based on your child's mode of learning.

Community Learning Center Opens at LPUMS

2/18/21: Students who need to use technology equipment for their classes can now come to Luis P. Untalan Middle School's cafeteria after school until 7pm. All students attending Guam Department of Education, private and Department of Defense schools are able to use the new service that begins on Tuesday, Feb. 23. Students can sign up for an hour (if others are waiting), and they can also bring their own devices.
